About Japanese

-Japanese is spoken by over 130 million people worldwide!

Writing Systems:	Three	Hiragana, katakana, kanji (Chinese characters)
Sentence Order:	SOV	Subject + Object + Verb, verbs/adjectives can stand alone
Future Verb Tense:	No	Past, present, and progressive
Plural Nouns:	Rarely used	Plurism is understood based on the context
Word Gender:	No	Words are neuter
Pronouns:	Rarely used	Japanese usually use peoples' names instead of pronouns
Speech Levels:	Three	Informal (friendly), formal (polite), humble (respectful)
Loanwords:	Many	Borrowed words (especially from English) written in katakana

About the JLPT

The Japanese Language Proficiency Test ( nihongo nouryoku shiken / 日本語能力試験 ) evaluates and certifies the Japanese language proficiency of non-native speakers. The test includes four levels, 4 being the easiest. (JLPT Certification sample)
